Could the book’s “shrinking spell” have something to do with the disappearance of her friends? We watch as her tiny friends struggle to get her attention. They go unnoticed, squished by the pages of the book, caught in her hair, dangling on her earring and stuck in her back pocket. Some even take refuge in her belly button!
When Enola finally does notice them. we see her darker side as she disposes of them, one-by-one.
